One of the most important steps to a great wildlife mount happens long before you take it to the shop. Handling of fish and game can ruin a mount if not done properly.
For fish, the most important thing is to get pictures immediately that show the actual colors of the fish. Within minutes of taking a fish from the water it will start to lose/change color. Next is to get it on ice and to the taxidermist as soon as possible. The fresher the fish, the more natural color can be preserved requiring less painting and try to match colors with the great pictures that were taken.
